Hello, can anyone tell me which are the last stations that this pass covers SOUTH of Matsumoto? We are planning to do parts of Kiso valley - so I need to know if it extends as far as Narai, Nakatsugawa. I can't seem to find more information on JR East website - the map doesn't show the last stations after Matsumoto. I am keen to take the Ltd. Express on that route. Thank you.

Ah, I see. So the Limited Express between Nagano and Matsumoto - JR Shinano line is NOT covered by this pass? Is that correct? I suppose since it's operated by JR central, essentially it's a different company from JR east? Thank you again.

Hi hfs,

New JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) Free Area Route and Maps is here:
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/eastpass_n/index.html#category04

This pass covers JR Express Shinano between Nagano and Matsumoto, Shiojiri.
But It does not cover Kiso valley such as Narai, Nagiso, Nakatsugawa.

JR Central Line is separated to Central East Line (operated by JR East)
and Central West Line (operated by JR Central) at Shiojiri Station.

Thanks for clearing this up. I was a little confused because if you look at http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/routemaps/byline.html under limited express on the left side, you DO NOT see the JR Shinano Limited Express line listed. So I am assuming that pass doesn't cover that particular train and I'd have to take the regular/normal/slow JR line for Matsumoto to Nagano.

Shinano Limited Express runs on Central West Line between Nagoya and Shiojiri
and on Shinonoi Line between Shiojiri and Nagano.

If you have JR East Pass, you can get on Shinano Limited Express on Shinonoi Line between Shiojiri and Nagano.
