Japan Rail Pass

Hello. We will be arriving Tokyo via Narita Airport April 24th. I plan on staying in Shinjuku and will take the Narita Express.

We leave Tokyo May 1st. That is 8 days in Tokyo. Do you charge children under age 5? Also, since my travel dates are 8 days do you recommend I get the 7 day pass and get another ticket from Shinjuku to Narita Airport on our last day (8th day May 1)?

I am also planning to travel to Kyoto - do you recommend this since we essentially only have 6 full days of sightseeing? Are the trains (and what line) from Shinjuku to Kyoto covered by the JR Pass? Your response will be greatly appreciated!

Hello there,

Childeren below the age of 6 can travel for free, some limitation apply. We have all the details for you here.

Kyoto can be visited as a day trip from Tokyo but I it is much better to stay there for 1 or 2 nights at least. Visiting Kyoto in a 6 full day itinerary is no problem. It gives a nice alternative from the busy metropolitan life of Tokyo.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Thanks Daniel. Would you still recommend that we get the 7-day pass if we decide to just go around Tokyo and not travel to Kyoto? Or would single train tickets be better?

In case of Tokyo it would be better to just stick to normal tickets.
