Hi,

I'll be visiting Japan for the first time, next May and I would like to know if I should buy the 14 days JR pass. My itinerary:

day 1-tokyo (narita airport) - fly in
day 2-tokyo
day 3-tokyo (day trip to fuji five lakes)
day 4-tokyo (day trip to niko)
day 5-tokyo (day trip to kamakura)
day 6-tokyo
day 7-kyoto
day 8-kyoto
day 9-koyasan
day 10-koyasan
day 11-kyoto (day trip to hiroshima)
day 12-kyoto (day trip to nara)
day 13-kyoto
day 14-tokyo (narita airport) - fly out

I'm also not sure if I should skip niko or kamakura and spend one more day in tokyo. What do you think?

Thanks

Hi there,

I went trough your itinerary to see the best option and a 14 day JR Pass is definitely the way to go for this one. You can make amazing savings by visiting Tokyo, Nikko, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo again, before returning to Narita Airport. The JR Pass will also cover nearly all your travel, though you additional tickets will be needed to access Koya and possible Fuji, these are however very minor compared to what you cover using a JR Pass.

Personally I would at least include the trip to Nikko. There is so much to see and do that it would be a waste not to include it. Kamakura is very nice too, just to see the Big Buddha. There are nice hikes and beaches to be found near Kamakura as well.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
