Is the 7 days JR pass suitable for my trip?

Hello,

I am planning to go to Osaka and Tokyo in the end of June.
I will go to Osaka for 7 days and 2 days within it will be in Tokyo.

I want to ask if the 7 days JR pass include Tōkaidō Shinkansen? And does it also include unlimited underground(JR) travel in both Osaka and Tokyo in this 7 days?

Thank you,
Jessica

Hi,
Yes you can ride the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, just not the fastest trains (Nozomi or Mizuho) on it. But the pass does not cover non-JR lines, buses, city subways etc. In Tokyo and Osaka you can use it though on a JR loop line - in Tokyo it's called the Yamanote line.
Your itinerary is unclear though - if you are only going one way by rail, from Osaka to Tokyo, the JR Pass would not pay off. You'd need to go round trip, with a side trip or two, such as to Himeji or Nikko.

Good luck.

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply! Yes I am going round trip from and to Osaka-Tokyo.
If I can't take Nozomi or Mizuho to and from Osaka-Tokyo, how long will it take?

Thank you,
Jessica

Hi,
It depends on the train and time. But generally about 3 hours. Please see Hyperdia.
