Hi,

I will be travelling to Japan for 14 days with the below itinerary:

Narita Airport-Tokyo (Day 1)
Tokyo-Hiroshima (1 day)
Hiroshima-Kobe (1 day)
Kobe-Osaka (2 days in Osaka)
Osaka-Nara(day trip)
Osaka-Kyoto (3 days in Kyoto)
Kyoto-Tokyo(4 days) in those 4 days we are doing a day trip to Hakone/Mt Fuji
Tokyo-Narita Airport

Is it worth it and practical to buy JR pass to use for all those 14 days or is it better to buy 7 days because it is the first 7 days that we will be traveling a lot.
What is the best and practical mode of transportation for Kyoto-Tokyo and Hakone/Mtl Fuji-Tokyo if we end up buying 7 days?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Christina

Hi Christina,

I would use a 14 day JR Pass for your itinerary. The price of a one way ticket Kyoto - Tokyo is roughly 3000 less more than the cost difference between a 7 day and 14 day JR Pass. In order words, now you get an additional week of unlimited travel for only a little more. Just using the JR Pass to return to Narita Airport will already pay for this.

Hakone has its own Shinkansen station by the name of Odawara. I would use the JR Pass to travel to Odawara and explore the Hakone/Fuji region from there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
