Is it worth getting a JR Pass?

Hi, my trip will be to go through four Japanese cities, and I'm wondering whether or not it's worth getting a JR Pass, or whether it would just be cheaper paying for the local trains.

My trip is:
Day 1 - arrive at the Chubu Centrair Airport at 8:20, then going directly to Takayama

Day 2 - from Takayama to Kanazawa

Day 3 - to Kyoto

Day 4 - to Nagoya

Day 5 - stay another day in Nagoya

Day 6 - head back to Chubu Centrair Airport to catch 17:35 flight.

Again, I am wondering if it is worth buying the JR Pass, and would that pass also include the ride from Nagoya to the airport? I am just unsure as to what is covered under the pass and what isn't. I would also like some advice as to which stations I need to be at to take these trains, and approximately how long those train rides would be. Also how late would those trains run until? I'm wondering if there are train cars with beds in them?

Thank you for reading this and I would really appreciate a reply

Hi there,

Here's a quick breakdown of the route you plan to travel.

Nagoya - Takayama ¥ 6,030 / 145 Minutes
Takayama - Kanazawa ¥ 5,990 / 134 Minutes
Kanazawa - Kyoto ¥ 6,900 / 133 Minutes
Kyoto - Nagoya ¥ 5,590 / 55 Minutes

All together ¥ 24,510 so for now it would be better to buy tickets as you travel, the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110.
As a general rule trains run until midnight and resume service the following morning. I don't think that trains have beds in them but most are equipped with reclining seats.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

The best way to travel from Chubu Airport - Takayama is to take the Meitetsu service to Nagoya station and from there the Hida Express to Takayama. The full trip is ¥ 7,050.

Note that travel between Chubu Centrair Airport and Nagoya station is not covered by the JR Pass.
