Hi,

I'll be travelling to Japan in April for 17 days. My itinerary:
1st day Arrive Narita airport, travel to Takayama same day
2-3 day Takayama
4-5 day Kanazawa
6-8 day Kyoto
9-11 day Osaka
12-17day Tokyo

Would it be worthy to buy a 14 day pass to cover all these major trips? Your advice would be very much appreciated.

A 14 day pass would not pay off. You would need to extend your travel, such as to Hiroshima/Miyajima. Nara is also a must see place near Kyoto, as is Himeji Castle. You can largely skip Osaka if you are going to see Tokyo. Near Tokyo some other good places to see are Nikko, Kamakura and Hakone.
