Is it cheaper to just purchase a rail pass

My husband, my 10 year old and myself are traveling to Japan in June. We are spending half our stay in Tokyo and the rest of our trip in Kyoto. We will be arriving and departing from Narita International Airport . We need to get to Tokyo from the Narita on the day of our arrival. The next trip will be from Tokyo to Kyoto and the 3rd trip from Kyoto back to Narita International Airport. What is the best and most economic pass or train tickets for our family to purchase?

Hi there,

A 7 day JR Pass is the best option here if you can cover the return Tokyo - Kyoto with it. Said simply, the cost of a 7 day JR Pass is almost the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto and you can make savings with any additional travel, even if its just a one way Tokyo - Narita Airport.
