hi,

Could you help me to review my intinerary as well as how could we utilize JRP (s) for this route?

Day 1: Nagoya take night train to Sapporo via Tokyo station (stay on train): are there any night train for this route?
Day 2: Arrive sapporo
Day 3: Come back Tokyo (stay on train) --> is there any night train?
Day 4: tokyo - Fukuoka
Day 5: Fukuoka - Hiroshima - Osaka (stay Osaka)
day 6: Osaka (visit Kobe in the same day)
Day 7: Osaka - Nara: stay in Nara
Day 8: Nara - Kyoto
Day 9: Kyoto
Day 10: Kyoto - Tokyo
Day 11: Tokyo
Day 12: tokyo - Nikko
Day 13: Nikko - Kyoto
Day 14: Kyoto - Nagoa Airport

From 28.3 to 13.4.2014

So, we could use 1 14-day JRP and 1 7-day JRP or we can mix of 1 14-day JRP & Seishu18 ticket?

In this season, do we need to take reservation?

Thanks so much.
Regards,
Uyen

Hi Uyen,

The JR Pass can certainly be used for your travel and you could make some great savings. Just visiting Sapporo would more than pay for the 14 day JR Pass.

I have a bit of bad news regarding night trains. There are only a very limited amount of night trains running in Japan and these can be sold out weeks before departure. This is why I would not recommend relaying on them, because it is only possible to reserve them once you are in Japan. In addition there's no night service between Nagoya - Sapporo which is covered by the JR Pass.

You could also look into a domestic flight from Nagoya - Sapporo, this would take out a lot of travel time (12 hours of train travel) and you could then use a 14 day JR Pass to travel down from Sapporo to Fukuoka and on.

For seat reservations, I would recommend making them 1 or 2 days in advance. April is the season of Cherry Blossom viewing and sometimes trains can fill up rather quickly.

Hope this helps!

hi Daniel,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Your mean that we cannot take JR train (using JRP) from Nagoya to Sapporo? Could we depart from Tokyo station around 11am and come to Sapporo in night? Are there any intinerary for this route?
When we arrive Tokyo station, could we take all our train tickets (for all our routes) to take reservation? If 1 people in my group is come late (take other plane to come Japan), I can buy reservation ticket for her? Because we are a group and we dont want her seat in different place. Are there any way to take reservation for late-coming people?

Your comments are useful for me.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Uyen,

There's no night train from either Toyko/Nagoya station - Sapporo which is covered by the JR Pass. However it is possible to make the trip during the day. HERE is an example itinerary.

You will need to person to be with you, or at least have his/her JR Pass to make the reservation. However seats rarely sell out and I don't think that you have to worry about not being able to sit together.

Hope this helps too!

hi Daniel,

Thanks so much for your help.

Could you help me to check:
+ Do JRP apply for the route from Kansai International Airport (Osaka) to Osaka Center (2-9-4 Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo-Ku, Namba / Shinsaibashi, Osaka, Japan 542-0086 - Our guesthouse)? Our flight come to Osaka by 9h30pm. If not, could we use another train/bus and how much is it? What is time for the last route?

  • Do JRP apply in Sapporo (city tour) and from Sapporo Airport to the center (Khaosan Sapporo Guesthouse)? If we use the local train? How much for each route? And are there any bus? is it easy for us to use?

Thanks again

Uyen

Hi Uyen,

You could travel to the station named JR-Namba and walk from there to your guesthouse in Osaka. This route is covered all the way by the JR Pass. Your arrival time is somewhat like but I do think that you can make it. Alternatively you can use the Nankai express to Namba station which is quicker but not covered by the JR Pass. The fare will be around 1,000yen depending which train line you use.

The JR pass can be used for travel for the airport to Sapporo, however within Sapporo city you will either have to use the Metro or bus. A normal ride is between 100-250yen depending on the distance. Here's an access guide for your hostel: http://khaosan-sapporo.com/en/access

Hope this helps!

hi Daniel,

Could you help me to understand how to read Train ticket? because this is writed on Japan Language. In the other hand, could you help me to transfer from train A to train B in case we have 02 trains in 1 route.

From Osaka Airport (Kansai) to our JP-Namba, how much train we have to use? Do need to transfer to other train? Or only 1 train from airport to Namba?

Besides, please kindly help me the route from Sapporo airport to the center? How much we have to pay for train or bus? and which is the economy way?

Thanks

Dear Uyen,

Sorry somehow i missed your replay before. You may already be on your way to Japan but I hope that this may still help.

Here is the route Kansai Airport - JR Namba. There's one transfer at Tennoji station.

For the Airport to Sapporo, simply take the airport express to Sapporo station. The fare is about ¥810.
More information on how to get around in Sapporo can be found HERE.

Have a great time in Japan!

Hi Uyen,

I would suggest This Route if you wish to travel as much as possible with the JR Pass to Kawaguchiko.

2.) Without the JR Pass I would suggest buying a normal JR ticket from Tokyo - Osaka, otherwise you could consider a night bus which is a lower cost option but you get to spend the night on the bes.

Best regards!

Hello again!

I would suggest taking this route.

There's not really an other route I would recommend, you could take local trains to Nagoya but you would travel a lot longer and have to make many transfers. It is a little cheaper though, I've included the route here for reference.

Hope this helps you!
