Hi there,

We (2 adults and 1 child - 10 yrs old) will be visiting Japan for 15 days.
1). We will arrive at Tokyo Narita airport on 7/4 at 5:05pm and stay 6 nights at Keio Plaza hotel Tokyo Shinjuku.on arrival at Narita airport what will be the best transport to go to hotel? Bus or train?

2). During the 3rd day, we may join one day tours to Mount Fiji.
3). On 13/4 at Tokyo, we will be going to Osaka and stay for 4 nights ( 13/4- 16/4 )
4). Then on 17/4 we will going to Kyoto from Osaka and stay for 4 nights, on last day at Kyoto 21/4 then back to Tokyo Narita airport to catch the international flight at 7:30 pm.

Can you please advise that 7 days pass be enough while we are travelling and can use the buses with it?

Or shall we buy 14 days pass?

Jenny

Thanks

Hi Jenny,

1.) I recommend taking the Narita Express from Narita Airport to Shinjuku station. Its the fastest and most convenient way of getting there.

I recommend using normal tickets for your itinerary. A 7 day JR Pass would have been useful if used for a return Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka but a 14 day JR Pass would need more travel in order to pay off. So the best remaining option would be to simply buy normal tickets.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks you Daniel.
If I use 7 days pass start from Tokyo to Osaka, then Kyoto.
On last day I will buy normal ticket to Tokyo Narita airport, would it be cheaper?
Also do I need to purchase normal ticket in advance just in case I can't get any tickets..

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

There is no need to reserve tickets long in advance, as trains rarely sell out. Only during peak moments should you reserve tickets 2-4 days in advance.

As for the JR Pass, a 7 day JR Pass would be helpful for Tokyo - Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo, then it would be worth it.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
