Hayabusa Line - Using Hyperdia

Hello all,

I read this post (https://www.jrpass.com/blogs/plan-with-the-hyperdia-online-timetable) telling me to use Hyperdia to plan my journies in Japan rather than google maps, as it has the ability to turn off private railways and lines not covered by the Japan Rail Pass.

However, when travelling between Nikko and Sapporo (killer journey) and Hirosaki and Tokyo, the journies Hyperdia gives me are very long, as unclicking the NOZOMI / MIZUHO / HAYABUSA (SHINKANSEN) option as the post suggests means I cant't use the Tohoku Shinkansen line going up to Northern Honshu and beyond.

Compare Hyperdia: http://tinyurl.com/onvkr66
and Google: http://tinyurl.com/ogtsm3f

Yet when I look up if the Tohoku Shinkansen line (Hayabusa, Yamabiko) can be used, the sites I find say I can.

Can I get a definitive answer on this? If I can I'll just not rely on Hyperdia for those two journeys, but I don't want to get stung with a big fee.

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can offer.

Hi there,

The JR Pass covers the Hayabusa train. So you can leave the option on in Hyperdia if you plan to travel north of Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
