questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

hakuba to odaiba

Hakuba to Odaiba

Hi. Are we able to use JR Pass from Hakuba to Odaiba? I've looked on Hyperdia but am a bit confused about the route we would need to take.
Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

Odaiba does not have a JR Station, the closest is Shimbashi. From there the Yurikamome will take you to Odaiba.

The Yurakimome is not covered by the JR Pass but it is only a small part of the trip.

Thanks Daniel-san

Could you please confirm that Shimbashi which you mention is the same as Shim-maebashi as mentioned on HyperDia?

Thanks again!

Hi again!

That's not the same station, pleas use Shimbashi in Hyperidia.

Here is an example.

Hello Daniel-san
Thanks for clarifying the Shimbashi station for me! I'm still struggling with a suitable route from Hakuba. I can see on HyperDia that we can get a train from Hakuba to Matsumoto, but then to get into Shinjuku, the train routes all seem to backtrack up to Nagano. Is there any direct JR train from Matsumoto to 'anywhere in Tokyo' that we can then get a train to Shimbashi?

Thanks!!

Hi again!

I recommend using the Azusa express from Tokyo to Hakuba or Matsumoto and use a local train from there.

Alternatively you can use the Shinkansen to Nagano and bus from there to Nagano.

Trains to Matsumoto depart from Shinjuku station and the Shinkansen to Nagano depart from Tokyo and Ueno stations.
