Hi!

I am considering buying the JR pass but is still not sure if I will be able to save. So I am trying to find all the opportunites where I can use a JR pass.

Most of my routes I have already planned out, but can you advise me on how can I use the JR pass from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko 5th station?

I was not able to find complete information because some bus sites are in Japanese. Most require me to take bus from Shinjuku which cannot use with JR pass. Is there any ways to go use JR pass all the way from Kyoto to Kawaguchiko?
How long will the travelling time be?

Thanks! :)

Hi there!

Unfortunately you can't use the JR Pass to travel all the way to Kawaguchiko. However there are good savings to be made. The most economic route with the JR Pass is to travel to Otsuki station and take the Fujikyu line from there to Kawaguchiko, this last part will require a 1,100 fare. However you save ¥ 15,350 for the JR part. Traveling time will take up about 5 hours, so plan well beforehand.

An alternative would be to take the Shinkansen to Mishima station and express bus from there. From memory I remember the bus being around 3,600yen but this route takes about an hour less and may be worth considering as well.

Hope this helps!

Hi Daniel!

My next question has nothing to do with the JR pass, but still hope you may help!

Where to make reservations for the express bus or the Fujikyu line? The websites I found are all in Japanese..

Thanks!

Hi Again,

Yes I do, unfortunately you can only reserve the seats in advance via the website or call a reservation line. These however are both in Japanese only. The best option would be to take a train to Japan Mishima station and buy the ticket there. Usually there's enough seats available.

As for the Fujikyu line, it does not require reservations beforehand. You just buy a ticket and pick a seat once you are on board.

Hope this helps too!
