My husband and I are going to Japan mid May. We fly into Narita Airport and stay in Minato for 5 days, plan on exploring the greater Tokyo area. We then go to Kobe to join a 8 day cruise. The cruise returns to Kobe and we are then staying in Kyoto for 8 days exploring the Kyoto area including trips to Nara, Osaka, Arashiyama. Then back to Narita to fly out. We are there 21 days in total. The metro seems to be the best way around Tokyo and isn't included in the JR pass. But would the longer trips make a 21 pass good value. Thanks.

Hello there,

I checked your itinerary for the best options and I think the best way to travel is to buy normal tickets.

A 7 day JR Pass could have been great if you made the return Tokyo - Kobe within a week. In order to make good use of the JR Pass it should be used at least every couple of days and it would not get the best value as it's not valid for the cruise :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
