Exchanging JR Kyushu Pass voucher

Hi there,

Is it possible to exchange a JR Kyushu Pass voucher before arriving in Kyushu? I will be flying into Tokyo, and then on to Ishigaki, and then to Fukuoka. I would like to travel to Yufuin the next day on the Yufuin no Mori, but I am afraid I will not be able to reserve a seat if I am only exchanging the voucher and reserving a seat the evening before. Therefore, I wondered if it would be possible to do this from Tokyo. I will be arriving in Fukuoka at beginning of November.
Glad for any advice.

Hello Irish Gypsy,

Unfortunately the JR Kyushu pas has to be activated at one of the major stations in Kyushu. This means that you'll have to chance it on the day of arrival.

But you know what they say about the luck of the Irish.

Hope you find this useful,
Daniel

Hi,

The offices where you can exchange the voucher for the pass are listed on the JR Kyushu website under "Where to pick up your pass".

November is not a busy time though so you should have no trouble reserving a seat. You might want to download their form and prepare it ahead of time to save a few minutes though.

You don't state everywhere you are going, but Fukuoka has plenty of places to see. Ohori Park is the city's most famous, and the Nokonoshima Island Park is a magnificent and beautiful flower park with a whole view over Hakata Bay. The Rakusuien and Yusentei Gardens are also both wonderful.

Kyushu has far more to offer as well - you can make a very memorable trip on the island.

Hi Toraneko and Daniel-San,

Thank you both very much for your advice.

We plan to use the 5 day North Kyushu Pass to see as much as possible in
the north, and then use a 7 day JR Pass for the south, and for our journey back to Tokyo , via Himeji, for our flight home to Ireland. I now plan to travel to Yufuin from Kumamoto, and from there to Fukuoka on the Yufuin no Mori, before heading to Tokyo, so will have more time to reserve seats, as we will be on JR Pass by then.
We are really looking forward to visiting Kyushu. We spent 3 weeks in Honshu in 2013.

Regards
