Hi,

This is our first time to visit Japan and we are looking forward and excited for our trip. Our trip to Japan will be in early of June, arrive at Osaka and stay for 3 days. Places we would like to visit are Sumiyoshi Taisha, Minami, Minoo Park and Osaka Castle, might go for sight seeing like to Kinosaki , Nara and Miyama.

Day 4, we will travel from Osaka to Kyoto and stay for 4 days, will try to cover central Kyoto, Easter Kyoto and Northern Kyoto. Some sight seeing like Mount Koya, Himeji and maybe Kobe. Then we will travel back to Osaka from Kyoto just for one day before we depart back.
Please advise us, would it be worth while to buy JR Pass or better to buy individual tickets.

Look forward to your reply and assistance.

Regards,
Suzanne

Hello Suzanne,

I see that you will spend most of your time in the Kansai Region, this is where Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nara are located. Travel within Kansai is not expansive and I think it would be best to buy individual tickets.

In Kyoto there's a very nice bus ticket, called the 500yen all day bus ticket. It gives you a day of unlimited travel within Kyoto and makes for a good savings, as a normal bus ticket is 220yen.

Hope this helps!

HI Daniel,
Thanks for you prompt reply and good advise, truly appreciate it. I have few more question.

How much will it cost for Shinkansen ticket, will it be good idea to travel day trip either Kyoto-Tokyo, or Osaka - Tokyo, which will be better and more economical ? How long will it take to reach Tokyo?...

What do you think about Kansai Thru Pass?....

Best regards,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

A one way ticket Tokyo - Kyoto is around 13,600yen so making a day trip is a little costly, that is unless you have a JR Pass. The travel time is about 160 minutes.

As for the Kansai Thru Pass, generally it is cheaper to just buy local tickets, unless you visit places such as Himeji or Wakayama within Kansai.

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
