Hi!
I'm confused with how the JR pass works. Can the JR pass be use in ALL trains/buses for Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka? Is it better to use the JR pass or Suica card?

I'm looking at a multi city tour - Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka. Which would be better to use for 10days?

Thank you!

Hi there,

The JR Pass is valid on all JR lines nation wide. This includes the national rail network, high-speed Shinkansen lines and urban JR networks like in Tokyo. Local JR buses, the Tokyo Monorail and the JR ferry to Miyajima are also included.

Transport run by other companies is not included, like the Tokyo Metro and non-JR busses.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi!
Thank you for your prompt reply!
So for transport run by other companies like you've mentioned, eg Tokyo Metro, where can I purchase tickets for them? At the train station itself? Is there any particular card/pass to purchase beforehand?

For shinkansen to Kyoto and Osaka, how do I book the seats?
