Hi,

I'm going to buy two JR Pass (7 days) before reaching Japan on 22.05.13!

What is the difference between first class and ordinary JR Pass?

Thanks!

Hi Dr. Atiqul,

We have a great blog post explaining what you can expect from Green (1st class) train wagons.

The best reason to consider an upgrade is if you wish to travel in a more relaxed and quiet manner. Personally I love it but most people will be fine with the normal pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

I have some more queries!

  1. On 26.05.13, I want to start from Fukuoka, in the afternoon or at night, to Tokyo. What is the possible time and route via JR?

  2. From Tokyo, I want to start in such a time, that I can be present in Kyoto by the morning of 28. 05.13. When and how can I proceed?

  3. From Kyoto, I want to go to nearby tourist spots and towns! Is there any facility for JR local round tour?

  4. When and how can I start from Kyoto, so that I can reach Hiroshima by 29.05.13 morning?

  5. From Hiroshima, I want to go to nearby tourist spots including Miajami island! Is there any facility for JR local round tour?

Finally, I want to reach Fukuoka from Hiroshima, before 30.05.13 morning, because I have to leave Japan from Fukuoka airport at 11 a.m.?

I am eagerly waiting for a kind response from you. Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi Atiqul,

I understand that you wish to travel frequently during in the morning. It is wise to keep in mind that in Japan train service is suspended during at mid night and resumed around 6 a.m.

1.) The Journey from Fukuoka (Hakata station) to Tokyo takes about 6 hours, you can find the route here. The last train leaves at 17:48.

2.) The first train to leave for Kyoto each day leaves at 06:26 and takes around 160 minutes. Please see this link for reference. Train leave in 30minute intervals after that.

3.) There is no official JR tour but the tourist information at Kyoto station speaks many languages and can help you with many things. You can also use to JR Pass to travel a little around Kyoto and visit places like Fushimi Inari and Uji. For sightseeing I would recommend buying a Kyoto bus pass that is just 500Yen and allows for unlimited travel on buses in Kyoto.

4.) The earliest train connection to leave for Hiroshima from Kyoto leaves at 06:09 and takes 133 Minutes. You can find the route here.

5.) Yes the JR Pass covered the full route (train and ferry) to Miyajima.

6.) The earliest train to leave from Hiroshima to Fukuoka is 06:05 and takes 93 Minutes. This should give you ample time to catch your flight at 11 a.m. Here is the route.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
