Hello there,

The JR Pass could be a good option for you. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka on the Shinkansen. However with the JR Pass you can 7 days of unlimited train travel for the same price.

You could also purchase normal tickets. To do this, simply go to any JR station and tell the staff where you wish to travel.

Hope this clears things up!
Daniel

Hi Daniel San,
I came across a route from Shinimamiya (JR Kishuji Rapid Service) - Osaka (Ltd Exp Super Hakuto 4)- Kyoto. My question: Is Ltd Exp Super Hakuto 4 covered by a JR Pass? Thanks!

Yes this train is covered :) There are also many local trains travelling this route, which you can also use.

Enjoy!

Hello there, just wanting to ask, the 7 day JR pass allows us to travel on any train including train from Osaka to Kyoto, Kyoto back to Osaka and also from Osaka to Tokyo & also all the subways in Tokyo? We also can take the Shinkensen to Tokyo am I right?

Does this pass allow us to take the buses or any transport in Japan?

Appreciate your kind assistance in clearing my doubts 😃

Hi there,

The JR Pass covers all JR lines nation wide in Japan. Including the Shinkansen and local JR networks in many cities. It however does not cover the Metro/Subway or transport run by companies other than JR.

We have an interactive map available with all lines covered:

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Dear Daniel,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.

My apologies for being naggy but would like to enquire I was looking at the link given (MAP), Tokyo Subway Route map, there's many lines and private railways, when you say local JR networks means JR Lines and JR Yamanote Line only as per the map? So other lines such as Shinjuku Line (Tokyo) is considered lines by other companies am i right?

7 days JR pass we can purchase it online? I read that the JR pass cant be couriered to certain countries and Malaysia was one of it. Can you advise how is the tickets gonna reach us or we should collect at somewhere, etc?

Thank you.

Dear Daniel,

Sorry another Quetion please, i saw this on the JR website:

"WHEN TO ORDER?

Once your Japan Rail Pass is purchased, we will send you an exchange voucher that you will have to exchange for the actual ticket in Japan, at the latest 3 months after your purchase. Therefore, you should buy your Japan Rail Pass MAXIMUM 3 months before the date you will exchange your Japan Rail Pass voucher on (once in Japan).

Once in Japan, go to the JR office (in airports and main train stations) in order to exchange your voucher for your train ticket. When exchanging your voucher you will have to choose a starting date for your Japan Rail Pass. This date has to be within the 30 days of the exchange. From this day onwards your Japan Rail Pass will be valid for consecutive days no matter what kind of ticket you bought"

Means that if i purchase the 7 days pass latest i need to exchange it at Japan will be January 2015, am i right?

Hi again!

To clarify here is a map with all lines covered in Tokyo.. Which includes the Yamanote line. You can order the pass directly online from us and we will ship it quickly using Fedex. Shipping.

After purchase, you have 90 days to exchange the JR Pass. This would indeed mean that you'd have to exchange the JR Pass in January if you purchase it in October.

Hi Goldiluck,

You could use the JR all the way to Hashimoto station. From there the you may use the Nankai expres. The Koyan World Heritage Ticket can be purchased at the bigger Nankai Express stations.

Hi again Daniel San,

Appreciate your help if you could enlighten us on this.

We are going to purchase the Kansai Regional Pass (3 days). My parents will arrive Kansai Airport at 10.25pm from Malaysia but after checking through on line the exchange offices is open until 6.30pm at Kansai Airport am i right? or even maybe latest 11pm. I am quite sure after the luggage, custom etc all will pass off the opening hours. Then how should we change the Regional Pass for us to use it from Kansai Airport?

Further, the 3 days pass how do they validate it, does it mean if my parents manage to exchange the tickets at the Exchange office on 20/12/2014 at 10.25pm means the first day is 20/12/2014 eventhough its 10.25pm or otherwise? kindly advise.

After the purchase of the Regional Pass we can choose to courier to Malaysia at the cost of $18 for all the tickets right? or it is free?

Thank you Daniel-san.

Hi goldiluck and eelian86,

@goldiluck, yes I think that the ticket can be purchased at Shin-Imamiya (nankai) station.

@eelian86 The exchange office will be closed when your parents arrive. Which means the only option is to buy normal tickets for the day of arrival.

Passes are counted in full days and this would mean that you'd use on entire day if you start using it at 10.25PM.

You can buy regional passes in Japan, so just buy it directly at Kansai Airport or in Kyoto/Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
