Collecting Passes and Reserving Seats

Hi there,

My family and I are going to Japan for a holiday, but I will be arriving one month before them. I would like to collect our four Rail Passes and make some reservations before my family arrives in Japan, is this possible?

I am not sure if it is possible to represent my family members and pick up the Rail Passes for them.

Also, if I am unable to pick up their passes for them, can I still reserve seats? Will I need to pay a fee to reserve the seats, and can I get this refunded after my family has collected their Rail Passes?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

You would at least need to actual JR Pass to make the reservations. This means that your family has to be in Japan and exchanged their JR Passes before reservations can be made.

You could buy ticket and have them cancelled and then re-booked under the JR Pass. However I would not recommend this at all, because cancellation fees apply for each ticket.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
