I will be travelling to Japan from 26December to 7January and I'm thinking if it will be good to get the rail pass. I have yet to plan my itinerary but I'm thinking of travelling out of Tokyo for maybe 2 days to Kyoto. My accommodation is at the Akihabara line (JR line) and i didnt plan to stay at Kyoto.

I've read about the different tickets and since the JR line covers almost all the places I'm intending to go (JR Yamanote line & if I'm travelling out of tokyo), i was wondering if it will cost cheaper to get the pass instead of the normal train tickets for travelling??

Hi there,

The 7 day JR Pass is almost the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto and you can make good savings if you use it for additional travel as well, such as within Tokyo, to the Airport or even for a day trip.

Talking about day trips, I would recommend making a visit to Nikko from Tokyo as well. This way you get the best out of your time in Japan and the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
