We are planning a trip, arriving in Osaka, but want to spend time in Shikoko and also walk for a few days along the Kumano Kudo in Wakayama. Can anyone advise me the best way to go please. Is the JR train from Osaka to Takamatsu better/easier/more frequent than the ferry from Wakayama to Tokushima? Is it easy to get to Wakayama? Would it be easy to catch the train to get there and then to leave via the ferry and go straight from Shikoko to Kumano Kudo?
Your help would be appreciated
Can you help with a practical itinerary?
Hi there,
Having made the trip by ferry from Tokushima - Wakayama, I can say it its quite easy to do and there are frequent ferries every day. I did just look up the ferry but it seems only half of the regular service is running due to Maintenance/inspection. A time table can be found here. Its in Japanese but the time should be understandable. (和歌山=Wakayama 徳島=Tokushima).
Taking the train is also a possibility and free with the JR Pass. However it does involve a long route via Okayama and the Seto Ohashi bridge.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
Many thanks, Daniel
HI again Daniel,
Sorry to hassle you over this matter, but does the site say how long the maintenance will be going on for? We are only due to be there in October, so perhaps the full service will be up and running again.
Sue
Hi again!
This is only until June 13th, you should have normal service in October. Of which the time table can be found here:

Hello Daniel.
Can you assist with some other travel plans please.
We will be landing up at Tiikatsuura, and need to get to Osaka from there. Is the JRtrain or a bus the better/quicker/cheaper option?
We will be in Osaka for a few days before flying out from Itami to Tokyo. I see that there are a variety of passes for Osaka, but I am having difficulty finding out what each one covers. Would either the 1 day pass or the Amazing pass include getting to Itami?
Thanks again.
Sue
