Hello there,

You could certainly be able to make savings with the JR Pass if you make your way to Fuji-Kawaguchi-ko and back. It is quite a trip from Osaka to Kawaguchiko, so spending two nights there is a good idea. The best way from Mt-Koya to Kawaguchiko with the JR Pass is to use local services from Mt. Koya (station name is Gokurakubashi) to Shin-Osaka or Kyoto station and use the Shinkansen to Yokohama and again local trains from there via Otsuki to Kawaguchiko.

A full route would look something like this. As you can see it's quite a trip to Kawaguchiko. A faster alternative may be a visit to Hakone which is much easier to access from Kansai.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your prompt reply, just wanted to understand the fare details. If I go by the details of the route in option 1, the fare shown is yen 18,290. Is this fare in addition to the jr pass or part of it is covered by the jrpass. I am also considering the idea of staying in Hakone. Would you be able to recommend a place in hakone which is well connected and easy for women travelling alone to manage.

Really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Vandana

Hi Vandana,

The JR Pass will cover most of the route. The parts that are not covered are between Mt. Koya - Osaka(¥870) and from Otsuki station to Kawaguchiko (¥1,140). The rest is all covered.

The Shinkansen station for Hakone is Odawara. You can use this as a base to explore Hakone as well as make easy day trips with the Shinkansen. An other nice play to stay at is Hakone-Yumoto, which is also easily accessible form Odwara.

Hope this helps too :)
Daniel
