Hi,

We will be in Japan for 9 days.
20/05-23/05 Osaka
23/05-26/05 - Kyoto
26/05 - 29/05 - Tokyo

1st day we will be arriving at night, and will just need a train ticket to get from the airport to the hotel.
We will be travelling around Osaka to sight-see of course, so was thinking if it would be better to get a 3 day Kansai pass for the first night and 2 days, then the JR pass for the 23rd - 29th?

Hi there,

Whether a JR Pass pays off, depends on what you'll do after Tokyo. A JR Pass can be useful if you return to Kansai, however I would stick to normal tickets if you just travel one way.

Same in Kansai, a Kansai Area Pass costs around 2,000yen per day. This means you will have to do quite a bit of travel for one to pay off. Instead, I would buy normal tickets in Kansai. For instance, a one way Osaka - Kyoto is 560yen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
