Hi,

I'm planning my trip to Japan for mid-Dec, and I would like some help with picking the JR pass.

My itinerary is as follows:

day 1: Arrive Tokyo NRT, stay in Tokyo
day2: Tokyo to Sapporo by air
day 3: Sapporo-Otaru-Sapporo
day4: Sapporo-Lake Toya
day5: Toya-Noboribetsu-Toya
day 6:Toya – Hakodate
day7: Hakodate to Kyoto by air
day 8-10: Kyoto
Day 11: Kyoto-Tokyo by bullet train
Day 12-15: Tokyo

Do you recommend that i buy the Hokkaido local JR pass for the first 5 days? Or it is better to buy the 14-day national JR Pass given that i will need it in Tokyo, Kyoto-Tokyo bullet train?

Please share your thoughts. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you very much!
Lu

Hello Lu,

I would advise buying normal tickets for this itinerary, this JR Pass would give you amazing savings if you did all your travel by rail. Since long distance trip are traveled by air, it would no longer be profitable to make use a JR Pass.

Looks like a great itinerary though! Will you be looking to catch some snow in Hokkaido?

All the best,
Daniel
