Hi there,

I am flying into Narita airport and the following is my travel itinerary and I am wondering whether to use a 7 or 14 day pass.

Day 1 - Narita Airport to Tokyo
Day 2,3, 4 - Around Tokyo
Day 5 Tokyo to Osaka
Day 6, 7, 8, Around Osaka, Kobe and possibly Kyoto if we finish Osaka earlier
Day 9 - Osaka to Kyoto then roam around Kyoto
Day 10 - Kyoto to Tokyo then Narita Airport

Thanks !!
Kris

Hello Kris,

Travel around Tokyo itself is not very costly compared to longer distances, such as travel to Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. My advice would be to use a 7-day JR Pass from day 4 to day 10 and buy normal tickets for travel around Tokyo in the first couple of days.

You can also buy a card like Suica:

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your quick reply and the great advised.
For travelling around tokyo, is it best to use a prepaid suica card or just buy as i need??

Cheers
Kris

Hi Kris,

You could do either.

The nice thing about a Suica card is. You pre-load it with money, then just enter and exit the station by swiping the card over the ticket gate and the correct fare is deducted. You never have to buy tickets in advance or figure out the right price. Pure convenience. This is especially nice, since sometimes station names on maps are only displayed in Japanese.
