7 days JR pass needed with tokyo-osaka itinerary

Hi there!

Please let me know if I need to get the 7 day JR pass on my itinerary or just a 1 way pass from tokyo to osaka since we will be riding the bullet train? Our itinerary is as follows:

22 Oct - arrive in Tokyo Narita airport. Hotel in Shibuya
23 Oct - explore tokyo, shinjuku & Mt Fuji
24 Oct - explore tokyo halfday then check out hotel late afternoon. Travel to Osaka via Shinkansen. Arrive evening at the Swisshotel namba
25 Oct - explore Osaka. Or possible to go to Kyoto? Or Narra
26 Oct - Osaka
27 Oct - 9am early morning flight via KIX Airport

In these limited days, can we still explore kyoto? What other itinerary options do you suggest?

Thanxx!

Hi there!

Looks like a good plan! I would advise buying normal tickets as you'd not make savings with a one way trip Tokyo -Osaka.

Kyoto is easy to reach from Osaka station, as it is only a 29min train ride away. So a day trip there certainly is a possibility. Nara is also within 1H travel from Osaka, so some there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel!

So you recommend that I just buy at the ticket counter machine for the train rides & also the bullet train to osaka from tokyo?

Is it easier that we go to Kyoto from Osaka instead of from Tokyo to Kyoto?

Hi Again!

Yes either buy your Shinkansen tickets at a manned counter or just a ticket machine :)

Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka are all lined up in one line and it does not really matter in which order you visit them.

Hope this helps too,
Daniel
