Hello, A friend and I will be going to Japan for the first time on May17th, arriving in Tokyo (Narita) on May 18th and would like your advice regarding the purchase of JR Passes.

Itinerary: May 18-25 Kyoto---May 25-26 Toyooka City, Hyogo---May 26-28 Hiroshima--May 28-31 Tokyo

I would like your advice as to whether or not it is a good idea to get a JRPass? If so, would it be better to get a 7 day or 14 day green pass? We would like to take day trips while in Kyoto to Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Lake Biwa. It was suggested that a 7 day pass would work. Does that mean we should buy tickets from Narita to Kyoto and also buy tickets for the Kyoto side trips, or at least some, maybe starting a 7-day pass on the 21st?

Any suggestions you can make will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I think a 14 day JR Pass would be a great option here. The price to upgrade from a 7 day JR Pass to 14 day JR Pass (¥ 17,280) is almost the same as a one way ticket Narita Airport to Kyoto (¥ 16,380). With all the side trips, a 14 day JR Pass will be well worth it.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
