Hi

I will be in Japan for three weeks from 10/26-11/16. Arriving in Osaka Kansai airport and departing from Narita airport.

Our tentative itinerary is:
Osaka/Kyoto/Nara - 6 days
Kyushu (Fukuoka/Kurakawa onsen) - 5 days
Nagoya - 2 days
Shizuoka - 3 days
Tokyo - 5 days

ANA has a special to fly to Fukuoka from Osaka for 5400 yen until 10/29/16 that we are considering taking to fly down to Fukuoka on the 29th.

Base on the places we want to go is the 14 day JR pass our best option? If we don't get the 14 day pass what would be our best alternative? Is 21 days even worth considering?

Also it's our first time in Kyushu so we welcome any tips or suggestion regarding where to visit and how long to stay for each stop since we are flexible with time (I.e. Spend less time in Kansai and more time in Kyushu).

We are traveling with a 4.5 year old and a 8 month old at the time so don't want to overture ourselves either.

Thanks

Hi there,

I think there are two main options here to consider. 1.) Is to take the flight to Fukuoka and use a 7 day JR Pass to travel up north to Tokyo, making all the stops you want in between. 2.) Is to use a 14 day JR Pass and travel everywhere by JR.

I think the 14 day JR Pass option is the more relaxed, you just get on the train and that's it. Flying will involve a lot of procedures + you have to travel to the airport and in-to the city again. Staying in Kansai for 6 days on a first visit is perfectly fine, you have 5 days in Kyushu as well and that's great too.

You could also split up your travel a little by adding in a stop over at Hiroshima and visit the close by Miyajima.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
