Hello and thanks for reading my post.
I am travelling to Japan in May 2015 for 3 weeks - my third trip. I am wondering if I can save money by getting just the 14 day JR Rail Pass. I am buying 3 passes for myself and 2 family members so any savings would be significant.
I arrive on May 2nd at Haneda Airport so I don't need the pass for the Narita Express. Then I will stay in Tokyo until May 9th when I will need the pass to travel and then I will travel back to Tokyo on May 22nd as planned on the 14th day of the pass. In between, I will be travelling to Kanazawa, Osaka, Nara, Himeji and Mt Koya so I will need to get the National Pass and not a regional one.
What I will miss is doing any day trips from Tokyo but all I had planned was Nikko and since it's Golden Week the first week I'm there the trains may be very crowded. Unless I've figured this out wrong, I think I can get away with a 14 day pass. What do you think? The cost difference is $325.American.
Any feedback or recommendations would be most appreciated.
