Hello JP RailPass Team,

My husband and I are spending our vacation in Japan this July, our plan is as follows :

17/07 to 20/07 ---> Tokyo
21/07 ---> Hakone
22/07 ---> Nagoya
23/07 to 27/07 ---> Kyoto
28/07 ---> Miyajima-Hiroshima
29/07 to 31/07 ---> Tokyo

  1. We would like to know if it is a good deal to buy a JP RailPass, and if so, which one is the most suitable ?

  2. Also, could you please indicate the best train stations to use according to the itinerary I have mentioned above ?

Please advise ! We count on your admirable assistance.

Hi,
A 14 day pass would pay off for your itinerary. The pass is never "necessary", the question is if it would save you money or not. In your case, it would be a good buy. You could enhance your savings further with some day trips - there is Nikko north of Tokyo, and Himeji and Nara near Kyoto - all are worth seeing.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia. Just plug in your starting point and end point, plus date/time that you like. But be sure under "More Options" to deselect "Nozomi..." since you can't ride that on the Pass.

Best of luck.

Hello there,

Using a JR Pass would certainly help you make savings. It even covers the ferry to Miyajima and sightseeing bus in Hiroshima.

For your itinerary, the Shinkansen station for Hakone is Odawara. It's good to note that one down. From there local transport will get you into Hakone and you can also take the bullet train from there to Nagoya. The other station names are the same as the cities you will visit.

Hope you find this useful,
Daniel
