Hi there,

I recommend getting a 7 day JR Pass for day 1-7 and use normal tickets for the remaining days in Tokyo. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen bullet trains. Any additionally travel you do, will only add to your savings.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
