Greetings:-

5 of us comprising 2 grand parents, and family of 3(a teen of 16yrs old) will be visiting Japan on these itinerary:-

9 Apr 6pm arr into Fukuoka : stay 1 night near Hakata

10-12 Apr Beppu

12-13 Apr : Kagoshima
13-16 Apr : Kyoto
(all our accommodations are done)

Q1 :
How far is the walk from Hakata train station to the Yatai food stall by the bridge along the river?
We wanted to try some foodstall yakitori/ramen.

Q2. Any JR buses from Beppu station to Hells sites of Beppu?

Q3. IS it better to travel the JR mountain road(via Mt. Aso) to Kagoshima OR via Kokura -> Hakata ->Kagoshima on shinkansen?
the time taken looks the same to me.
Is it scenic along the Mt Aso route?
Q4.:-
Is it advisable to goto Ibusuki just to take a sand bath. It is a 2 hours train ride!!
what other sights worth seeing in Ibusuki?

Q5. On our way from Kagoshima to Kyoto via bullet train, we like to stop for 2-3 hrs at Miyajima.
Please advise the route, as bullet train do not stop there.

thank you sir,
david

Hello David,

1.) It would take about 15minutes to talk from the station into one of the more famous Yatai areas near Chanel City/Nakasu Island. Do note that they only open after 6pm and there's no point in coming earlier than that. If that does not work, visit Tenjin to try some of the local ramen there. There are plenty of great shops, the best I can recommend there is Ichiran Ramen.

2.) Yes, the tourist information at Beppu station can provide you the exact time tables. It's not too far, so using a Taxi is also an option.

3.) I don't think that I completely understand the question but using the Shinkansen from Hakata to Kagoshima-Chuo is by far the fastest option.

4.) The train ride itself is worth making, even if you don't get off the train. With the Sandbath added in, its fantastic.

5.) Miyajima is very close to Hiroshima, so first get out of the Shinkansen at Hiroshima station. Then take a local train to Miyajimaguchi and take the ferry from there to Miyajima. This complete route is covered by the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

2.) From Takashiho to Kumamoto bullet train station on 13 Apr. We want to go from Kumamoto to Kyoto.

Hi David,

.1) You can't use the JR Pass all the way to Takachiho, here are access options.

2.) You can use the Sakura Shinkansen from Kumamoto via Shin-Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
