Hello,

Next month I am flying into Fukuoka and need to travel to Shin Yamaguchi. Is this an easy journey, how long does it take and what's the cost?

Also is it easy navigate in English?

Thanks

Hi,
Yes, it is easy to get from Fukuoka City (Hakata Station) to Shin-Yamaguchi. By regular fare it takes about 37 minutes with a fare of ¥5,070. Getting around the stations is easy and there are signs in English as well as being able to use the ticket machines in English. You don't give any other itinerary info, so it's hard to say if a JR Pass or other regional pass would help you save money.
For Fukuoka, there are many open parks, shopping, seaside historical areas, and urban neon. See this site as a good guide.

Don't miss the Nanzoin Temple which is one of Japan's finest yet almost totally unknown to the outside world and completely FREE!
Look into a Fukuoka Tourist City Pass also.
You can also see a lot of previews on the best there is to see here.

Not to be missed in Yamaguchi is Akiyoshido which is a 300 million year old limestone cave 1km deep with an underground river and giant caverns. Also not far away is Iwakuni with its iconic bridge and mountaintop castle.

Best of luck.

Thank you, I'm landing at Fukuoka and need to be at Yamaguchi. How easy is the train journey from the airport?

Hi,
It's quite simple. You didn't say if your arriving plane is international or domestic, but you need to get to the domestic terminal to take the 5 minute subway ride to Hakata Station. From there, you just take the escalator up and you are in the train station.
You can get current schedules on Hyperdia. There is also a bus that leaves from the international terminal to Hakata Stn., but the subway is much smoother and just 2 stops away.
If you have time, you can also go to the rooftop of the building, called Hakata City, and get a great view over the whole area.
It is a nice place to visit actually - there are many open parks, shopping, seaside historical areas, and urban neon. See this site as a good guide.

For Fukuoka, don't miss the Nanzoin Temple which is one of Japan's finest yet almost totally unknown to the outside world and completely free! Yusentei is also a pretty villa/garden, and the sunset from Odo Park was quite nice and relaxing.

Look into a Fukuoka Tourist City Pass also.

You can also see a lot of previews on the best there is to see here.

Good luck!
