Hello!

There is some great information on here. Thanks everyone! My boyfriend and I will be visiting Japan for the first time in October and have a couple of questions and thought it would be easiest if just asked
We will be staying in Tokyo (Shinagawa) for 8 nights and have a few things already planned for our stay.

Could you please tell me the easiest way to use the JR pass we will be purchasing:
1. From Tokyo to the Suzuka Race Circuit
2. From Tokyo to the Toyota Factory

Thank you
Nikki

Hi there!

Thanks for the feedback! Here are some answers for you:

Tokyo to Sukuka circuit

For Suzuka you should aim to get to Kawarada station (sample itinerary) using the shinkansen to Nagoya and then using a local train. Then, from Kawarada to the circuit itself you can follow the route I describe in this post.

Tokyo to the Toyota factory

For the Toyota factory, you can follow these guides on the Toyota factory website. You'll again need to get to Nagoya on the shinkansen and then transfer to some local trains. Here is the route from Nagoya to a station near the factory, and then walking instructions from the station to the factory itself. Here is the full train itinerary you'll need - please note that the final leg from Okazaki to Mikawa-Toyota is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass, and costs ¥430 each way.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

If you're planning on hiking you should head to Kawaguchiko station via Otsuki(JR) and then get a bus up to Kawaguchiko 5th station to the main hiking path entrances. It's a fairly big climb if you're not used to hiking (and cold at the top) so you should aim to stay in Kawaguchiko before/after and make sure you are well planned/prepared before you start (guide books and so on are needed for this answer!).

If you're looking for nice relaxing views of Mt Fuji and the surrounding lakes, then I recommend looking into Hakone. You can access Hakone from JR Odawara, from which you should use the non-JR Odakyu lines to get up to the Hakone area itself (I recommend the Hakone free pass for this).

Hope this helps!

Hi .. we have decided to move to Nagoya for the weekend, makes it easier to travel to Suzuka circuit.
I could send you my mobile number for easier communications .. let me figure out if I could private message you :-)
