Hi

We are using JR Pass.
We intend to make a 2 days trip from Tokyo to Hakone, then to Kawaguchiko in mid Dec 2016.
From Kawaguchiko we will head toward Matsumoto etc.

Is it better to stay the night at Hakone or Kawaguchiko?
What is transportation (bus or train) from Hakone to Kawaguchiko?
Any tradition Japanese accommodation or onsen to recommend near the station?

Thank you.

Hi there,

You can either stay near Kawaguchiko or Hakone, both places are nice and good to stay at. Personally I like Hakone, as there is more variety of things to see and do. I don't have any specific onsen to recommend but there are many around Hakone as well as a couple close to Kawaguchi-ko station.

Taking the bus to Kawaguchi-ko is the easiest way.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel,

You did answered my questions.

However, I am still not sure of the route conditions.
I have the following understandings and impression.

1) from Hakone (Gotemba premium outlet) take a bus to Kawaguchiko
2) from Kawaguchiko take the Fuji Kyuko Line to Otsuki
3) from Otsuki take the Main Chuo Line to Shiojiri.
4) from Shiojiri take the Shinonoi-line to Matsumoto

Due to several transits or transfers, it can be tough and hetic, and may miss the timing.

Hope I am not asking too much questions.
Cheer!

Is there a better or easy way, or route from Kawaguchiko to Matsumoto.

Hi there,

Here is a Guide to travel around Hakone.

Travel is indeed complicated as there are different companies involved and types of transport. I do recommended being flexible in your timings.

The fastest way from Kawaguchiko - Matsumoto is to take an express bus from Kawaguchiko to Kofu and from there use the Azusa express to Matsumoto. The bus is not covered by the JR Pass but the train is.

Alternatively, you can use the Fujikyu line to Otsuki station and from there use the Azusa express to Matsumoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
