Hi, advice needed re: itinerary and suitability of getting 7day JR pass and IC cards.

My itinerary is as follows:

Day 1: Tokyo Narita airport -> N'Ex to Tokyo station -> Shin-Osaka via shinkansen using JR pass

Day 1 to 3: Explore Osaka castle, dotonbori, shinsekai, shinsaibashi, umeda, Universal Stuios (should I buy the Kansai One Pass? Or use the JR pass on JR lines and buy single trip tickets?)

Day 4: Day trip to Himeji (is JR pass sufficient or do I need to purchase other train tickets?)

Day 5: Osaka to Kyoto via Shinkansen. Explore Kyoto Kiyomizudera and Gion (is Kansai One Pass still useful here?)

Day 6: Day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima (is JR pass sufficient or do I need to purchase other train tickets?)

Day 7: Kyoto to Tokyo via shinkansen

Day 7-10: Explore Tokyo (should I buy the Suica card?)

Day 11: Shibuya station to Narita airport (I will have to buy one way ticket on the N'Ex right?)

Thank you for your kind assistance!

Hi there,

I've added comments below.

Day 1 to 3: Explore Osaka castle, dotonbori, shinsekai, shinsaibashi, umeda, Universal Stuios (should I buy the Kansai One Pass? Or use the JR pass on JR lines and buy single trip tickets?) The JR Pass will get your to all these places with a little bit of planning and walking. For instance you can reach dotonbori, shinsekai, shinsaibashi all from JR-Namba station and Umeda is simply Osaka station.

Day 4: Day trip to Himeji (is JR pass sufficient or do I need to purchase other train tickets?) All you need here is the JR Pass and 10min of walking from the station.

Day 6: Day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima (is JR pass sufficient or do I need to purchase other train tickets?) The JR Pass covers all of this.

Day 7-10: Explore Tokyo (should I buy the Suica card?) It is not required but recommend, for more information see: http://www.jrpass.com/blogs/benefits-of-prepaid-travelcards

Day 11: Shibuya station to Narita airport (I will have to buy one way ticket on the N'Ex right?) Yes, there are also cheaper options available such as using local trains (~1,400yen/one way) or the 1000yen Narita Airport bus.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
