Thank you in advance for answering my questions!

My wife and I will be at Japan from 3rd April - 9 April. We have purchased a 7 day JR pass. We land at Narita at 4pm and intend to travel directly to Kyoto until 6 Apr and come back to Tokyo till 9th Apr.

My questions:

  1. How do I get from Narita to Kyoto by train? I tried to search from Hyperdia: bit.ly/22Nl8w9 (Is this the best route?)
  2. Am I able to reserve the tickets now online? Not sure how JR pass works.
  3. Would you suggest a short stopover (half a day) in between Kyoto and Tokyo and what might be good?

Hi there,

1.) Yes, this is correct.

2.) You can service seats once you are in Japan and have exchanged the JR Pass, find out more here.

3.) It may be a good idea to make a sleep over between Tokyo - Kyoto on the way there, plans can be delayed and the last train from Narita Airport to Kyoto departs around 19:00. Staying a night in Nagoya or Shizuoka would not be a bad option. Both are directly on the route and offer plenty to do for a stopover.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
