Hello!

I will be touching down at Haneda airport on the 11th July. Will be in Japan till the 18th. Would love to check:

(1): Whether it would be feasible for me to purchase a 7 day JR pass? Will be staying in Tokyo for 3 nights, then to Kyoto for 2 nights, after which to Osaka for a night, then back to Tokyo again on my last night.

(2) What are the designated areas that I can commute in Tokyo using the 7 day pass? For eg. Can the pass allow me to travel from Shinjuku to Ometosando?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

The 7 day JR Pass is a great option for your itinerary. The price of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka using the Shinkansen. From there it is very easy to start making savings with any additional travel. For instance local JR travel in Tokyo or to Haneda Airport.

2.) The JR Pass is valid on the full JR Network nationwide. Within Tokyo there are also many JR lines, including the very useful Yamanote loop line. You can for instance take the Yamanote line from Shinjuku - Harajuku station and walk to Omote-Sando from there in 5min.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
