What a great forum! I've tried to read up, but I'm having a hard time figuring out if I should get the JR pass or regular tickets.

I'm traveling from Tokyo to Huis Ten Bosch, and back.

Thank you so much for an answer!

Best regards,

Hi there,

Yes, definitely get a JR Pass for this route. A one way ticket Tokyo - Huis ten Bosch is ¥ 26,690 (or double that for the return).

While a 7 day JR Pass is 29,110. So you can make amazing savings using a 7 or even 14 day JR Pass.

It's quite a long trip though, so it may be nice to add in a stop-over or two. Think of Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, Hiroshima or Fukuoka. These are all directly on the route.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you for a fast response, Daniel. Wonderful! I read on "japanrailpass.net" that "JAPAN RAIL PASS, a joint offering of the six companies comprising the Japan Railways Group (JR Group), is the most economical means of travelling throughout Japan by rail. There are some restrictions on use; for example, JAPAN RAIL PASS cannot be used for travel on NOZOMI and MIZUHO trains on the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen lines." And Google Maps is telling me that train one is "Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi". Does this mean the JR Pass is not valid?

Hi again!

The JR Pass is valid for this route, you can however not use train services called: Nozomi/Mizou.

All other trains are included, you can for instance use the Hikari and Sakura Shinkansen instead, the main difference is the amount of stop each train service makes.

Its better to use www.hyperdia.com, to find the routes you want. Also see:

Hope this helps,
Daniel
