To Nagasaki via Himeji or Beppu

I will be travelling from Tokyo to Nagasaki in May on Shinkasen. It's a long trip and I might like to break it up on the way with an overnight trip. I have already been to Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Myajima. Options I'm considering are:
Beppu and Yushuin - from Tokyo via Kokura then on to Nagasaki
Himeji\Kurashika

All other recommendations most appreciated.

Hi there,

Traveling from Tokyo - Nagasaki already is a long trip, going to Buppu or Yufuin would add a good amount of extra travel. Although both are great places to visit, I would advise trying to stop somewhere closer to the route that you will be traveling.

Alternatively you could make a stop at Fukuoka. Himeji is also a great stop over, personally I'd recommend it over Kurashiki.

Yet an other option, would be to take the all new Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo - Kanazawa, stay there a night and then travel on. More about Kanazawa can be found here.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel, very helpful. I had also considered doing the Alpine Route, stay a night in Kanazawa, then continue to Nagasaki the next day but it sounded exhausting. Straight to Kanawaza for a night sounds nice and I'll look into it. Thanks again, much appreciated.
