Hi,

We are based in Tokyo and Kyoto while in Japan and will be doing small side trips from Tokyo the week before we go to Kyoto. Can you please advise on either a 7 or 14 day pass? If we buy a 7 day pass when would be the time to activate it?

Tokyo (all to and from Shibuya)
Day 1: Hakone
Day 2: Yokohama
Day 3: NIkko
Day 5: Kawaguchiko

Kyoto
Day 8: travel from Shibuya to Kyoto
Day 11: Kyoto-Osaka-Kyoto
Day 14: travel from Kyoto to Haneda Airport

Thank you.

Hi there,

In case of a 7 day JR Pass, you would want to cover travel from Tokyo - Kyoto and back with it, as this is the most expancive route, so from day 8-14. I do think that a day JR Pass would be the better option, as there are all budget transport options available for the day trips from Tokyo, for instance to Nikko you could use the Tobu Nikko Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
