I plan on going to Japan for 7 days. Here's my plan (2 adults, 2 seniors and 1 child who is 4 years old):

Narita Airport to Tokyo on the train
Tokyo local trains for 3 days
Tokyo to Kyoto on the Shinkansen
Kyoto local buses or trains for 3 days
Kyoto to Narita Airport on the Shinkansen(?)

Thanks for helping me decide to buy the 7 day pass or just individual tickets.

Hi Scott,

Lets take a look at your cost breakdown for your definite travel:

  1. Narita airport terminal 1 > Tokyo: ¥3,140 (62mins, 79km)
  2. Tokyo > Kyoto: ¥13,420 (164mins, 513km)
  3. Kyoto > Narita airport terminal 1: ¥16,330 (238mins, 592km)

JR ticket cost: ¥32,890 for 3 legs

As you can see you'll make good savings with the 7 day pass, especially if you add in further Tokyo travel and the flexibility to add longer day trips if needed.

I hope this helps!
