My family is planning our first trip to Japan. We'd like to travel from Osaka to Tokyo. I believe it would be easier and faster to travel by rail than travel by air between the two cities.

  1. Which train line should I take?

  2. How long does it take to travel by rail from Osaka to Tokyo? 2 hours? 3 hours? More?

  3. Are there express or bullet trains leaving frequently from Osaka? If so, where can I obtain a train schedule?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi there,

1.) You can use the Shinkansen (Bullet trains) directly from Tokyo - Shin-Osaka station. From Shin-Osaka station local trains run throughout the city.

2.) The travel time between Tokyo - Osaka is around 180 minutes.

3.) Trains depart very frequently, with up to 6 trains per hour. You can check train times using Hyperdia.com.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
