Hi!

I will be going to Japan on September for 11 days and I get quite confused for my transportation especially on the JR pass during the time I prepare my itinerary so I actually need some help on my question.

Below are my schedule for 11 days travelling:-

Day 1 - Day 5: Arrive at OSAKA and travel to TOKYO
Day 6: HAKONE (Day trip from Tokyo)
Day 7 - Day 11: stay in OSAKA and travel to KYOTO and NARA by daily basis. Depart back to my country at OSAKA

Question:-
1) Is it worth if I get a 7 days JR Rail pass?

2) Because my JR pass will be expired after 7 days, so it is recommend me to stay in OSAKA and travel to Kyoto and NARA or it will be better if I can stay in Kyoto for two days and make a day trip to NARA and the rest of the day stay in OSAKA?

3) is JR Rail Pass cover the transportation in Tokyo as well?

4) How much it cost and the time to travel from OSAKA to Kyoto?

Appreciate if you can help!

Thanks!

Hi there,

1.) It would be more economic to buy normal tickets for your travels. This because when you look at the amount travelled, the only long route is Tokyo - Osaka. A JR Pass would be useful if used for a return Tokyo - Osaka.

2.) Kyoto and Osaka are both great to stay at, Nara is small and best visited as a day trip. Travel is all done by local trains and fares are between 500-800yen/one way.

3.) The JR Pass covers the full JR Network in Tokyo but not other kinds of transport.

4.) About 30min/560yen using the Shinkaizoku (JR special rapid).

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel!

Thanks for your quick respond!

For the question 1 right, actually I am travelling from OSAKA to Tokyo first then in day 7 I will be travel from Tokyo to OSAKA. So is the normal ticket be more worth to get compare ti buy normal ticket?

And can I use the JR pass to HAKONE?

Lastly, travel from OSAKA to Kyoto cost about 560yen using the Shinkaizoku (JR special rapid) is one way right?

Thanks again!

Hi again,

If you do make the return Osaka - Tokyo, then I would suggest using a 7 day JR pass.

2.) The JR Pass is also good for travel to Hakone. You can use the Shinkansen to Odawara station. From Odawara, local non-JR transport is required to travel further into Hakone.

3.) Yes, 560yen one way.
