Hi all,
I'm planning a trip to Japan in early June and hope to take the express line from Narita to the city center, stay in Tokyo for a couple of days, then head to Kyoto for 5 days, then back to Tokyo for 2 days, then depart from Narita again. Does it make sense to get the JR Pass for this? How about if I add Osaka into the itinerary?

Thanks in advance!

J

Hello J,

Yes a 7 day JR Pass would be a good option for this itinerary. The pass itself is almost the same price as a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Adding more travel is where the savings are to be had. For instance to Osaka, Narita Airport and local travel on JR lines.

You could also add a day trip to Nara or Hiroshima/Miyajima with 5 days in Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
