Hello,

We are travelling to Japan with an itinerary as follows:

April 3 - 5 -Tokyo
April 5 - 9 - Kyoto
April 9 - 12 - Osaka
April 12 - 15 - Tokyo

On the last leg of our trip where we go back to Tokyo, we are planning to take a day trip to Mt. Fuji.

With the above itinerary, I am surmising that the best option for us would be to get the 14-day rail pass. I understand that the pass also includes the JR buses and intercity lines in the above cities where we plan to visit. Am i correct?

Thank you very much for you advise on the best option we can take in terms of the passes. In the beginning i was quite confident on the direction we are taking but I got confused along the way with the multiple options (i.e. JR East, West, etc.) .

Thanks and best regards,
Bland06

Hello there,

As your itinerary it now, it would be best to buy normal tickets for your trip. This because the most expancive routes Tokyo - Kyoto and Osaka - Tokyo are too far apart to cover both with a 7 day JR Pass, while together they cost less than a 14 day JR Pass.

Alternatively you could return to Tokyo late on the 11th and use a JR Pass between April 5th and 11th. (Permitting this could still be planned in).

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Yes indeed, I think that going back to Tokyo late on the 11th is a good option and we are now checking the possibility for this.

Thanks a lot Daniel for your quick and sound advise.
