JR Pass for this itinerary?

Hi all,

My friends and I are travelling as a group of 3. Our itinerary is:
Tokyo (6 days)
Kyoto (4 days)
Osaka (4 days)

We are wondering if a JR pass is the cheaper option considering the shinkansen we would have to take and the local trains. Or if it would be cheaper to buy a one way skinkansen pass and then purchase individual rail passes locally?

Hi there,

I think the best option here would be to use normal rail tickets. The cost will likely be lower than the cost of a JR Pass.

A 7 day JR Pass is recommended if you make a return trip Tokyo Kyoto/Osaka but it looks like you will be travelling one way?

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
