Hello!

I'm traveling to Japan for the first time and I'm feeling overwhelmed! I'd love to know if a JR Pass makes sense with the following itinerary:

Day 1 - fly into Tokyo in the evening

Day 2-4 - explore Tokyo, including Nikko

Day 5 - travel to Nagano to go to the Jigokudani monkey park

Day 6 - late afternoon/evening travel to Kyoto

Day 7-10 - Kyoto with one day trip to Nara

Day 11-12 - Kyoto to Mt. Koya with two nights in Mt. Koya

Day 13 - Koya to Osaka

Day 14 fly out of Osaka

Alternatively I can fly out of Tokyo, but that doesn't seem to make sense considering the end of my trip will be in Mt. Koya.

Any advice will be gratefully received!

Hello there,

I think a 7 day JR Pass would be the best option if you could include travel to Nikko, Nagano, Kyoto and Nara with it. This way you cover all the otherwise costly trips using the JR Pass.

Flying out of Tokyo could make sense if your flight tickets is cheaper, otherwise you may as well flight out of Osaka.

Hope this hjelps,
Daniel
