itenerary check narita-tokyo-kyoto-haneda

Hello,

I will be going to Japan for the first time.

I will be arriving at Narita airport on Dec 23 and spend my days with some people in Tokyo until Dec 28.
But then I will be by myself from Dec 28 - Jan1. These are the days I will spend in Kyoto.

I have a flight to catch Jan 1st on 23:59 (11:59PM) at Haneda airport (technically, I have to be 3 or 4 hrs at my gate prior to departure time as it is an international flight, so ideally I would like to be at Haneda airpot by 19:00)

My major use of trains will be for Narita Airport to Shinjuku(Tokyo), Tokyo to Kyoto, and finally, Kyoto to Haneda airport.

Would a JR pass be feasible for me?

How do I get from Tokyo to Kyoto by rail in the shortest time possible?

And this is the part that I am worried about. If I leave my Kyoto hostel on morning of Jan 1st (let's say, 0900 AM) will this give me enough time to catch my flight at Haneda airport that midnight? (thats about less than 24 hrs time). How do I get from Kyoto to Haneda airport in the fastest time possible? Will my JR Pass cover that? How frequent is this route? It's new years day after all.

Thank you for your time.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum! It's always great to see new people visiting Japan.

The 7 day JRPass would offer you very good value for this trip. The pass itself is about the same price as a normal return Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price :)

Travel from Kyoto - Tokyo station using the JRPass will take around 160 minutes, from there take the Yamanote line to Hamamatsucho (3min) and lastly board the mono rail for travel to Haneda Airport. This entire trip is covered by the JRPass including local travel to Haneda Airport. Reserve a little more than 3 hours for the entire trip!

Hope this helps,
Daniel
